Welded Stainless Steel Water Tank VS Modular Bolted Panel Tank: How to Choose for Your Project
When planning a water storage project, many engineers and project owners face a core question: should they pick a welded stainless steel tank or a modular bolted panel tank? Both options use stainless steel and can store drinking water, fire water or industrial process water, yet they fit completely different site and logistics conditions.
Welded Stainless Steel Water Tank
The welded tank is fully fabricated by welding steel plates together. It is normally pre-built in the factory, then shipped as one whole unit or large welded segments to the site.
- Pros: No gaskets between panels. Lower risk of gasket aging and leakage. Smooth tank wall, good for clean water storage.
- Cons: Limited by transport size. Very large tanks are hard to ship. On-site welding requires certified welders and site anti-rust treatment. Longer site construction time for big volumes.
- Best for: Small & medium capacity, rooftop installation, projects where long-term zero gasket maintenance is required.
Modular Bolted Panel Water Tank
The bolted panel tank uses stamped stainless steel 模压 panels. All panels are pre-made in factory and shipped separately. Workers assemble them on site with bolts and rubber gaskets.
- Pros: Panels are flat and easy to ship, even for huge volumes. Flexible size, you can expand tank capacity later. Simple assembly, no heavy welding work on site.
- Cons: Relies on rubber gaskets for sealing. Gaskets need inspection and replacement after years.
- Best for: Large volume ground tanks, remote sites, projects with difficult access for oversized cargo, industrial water storage.
Quick Selection Guide
- Rooftop fire water tank, medium volume, want minimal future maintenance → Welded stainless steel tank
- Large capacity over 500m³, ground installation, hard transportation → Modular bolted panel tank
- Coastal high humidity environment → Both are available, we recommend 316 stainless steel grade
- Drinking water storage → Both can meet drinking standards, material certificate available
We supply both welded stainless steel tanks and modular bolted panel tanks in 304 or 316 grade. Our team reviews your site condition, required volume, budget and local codes, then recommends the most suitable tank solution. Layout drawings and full accessories including overflow pipe, drain outlet, manhole and level sensor can be provided.
Send us your project parameters, and we will prepare a customized quotation for you.
